let us humble ourselves

To obtain [a testimony], let us humble ourselves; drop our arrogant attitude of irreverence and self-sufficiency; realize that we, individually, need to change our thinking and acting; honestly admit to ourselves that the cause of all the world's ills is not in the other person; approach our Heavenly Father frequently in fervent, earnest prayer, pray vocally with our families as well as in secret; do this with all the energy of our souls, with a firm determination that we will make such changes in our lives as are necessary to bring them in harmony with the light God gives us to see; and in this attitude let us study the teachings of Jesus as given by Himself and his prophets.

If we will do this, it shall be made known unto us that God is our Father, that Jesus is His Son, our elder brother and Redeemer, and that we are brothers; a desire for righteousness and to serve our fellowmen will awaken and grow strong within us; hate, greed, and lust will depart. In their place will come freedom and peace, and if we continue in His word, we shall be free indeed, "for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea." (Isaiah 11:9)
