often wrong, but never in doubt

He [Marion G. Romney] scoffed at those who jumped at conclusions or who voiced authoritative pronouncements without adequate scriptural authority to support them. Such persons were "often wrong, but never in doubt," he would say. He would privately indicate that he did not know many things; but when he spoke, after meticulous research and thoughtful preparation, he was seldom wrong.
