It would be easy, he knows, with that building and so many others, to simply tear them down and begin again. As a builder, it certainly is easier starting with a piece of flat, clear land. But so much is lost that way – far too much is lost. And so for three years of rebuilding, he’s always asked first, “What can be saved?”
