Joseph Smith, in common with all intelligent beings, thought much about the nature of the world, and his place in it. He asked the universal questions, Whence did I come? Why am I on earth? Where do I go after death? His mind wandered far and wide in search of answers. He learned early that the happiness promised in the Book of Mormon requires satisfactory answers to these questions. People are not happy when they walk in darkness.
