It is reported that one of the Taos artists said of [Gunnar] Widforss, “If he just wouldn’t copy nature so closely he’d be the greatest living painter in America,” and when Widforss was told of the comment, he swept his hand toward the Canyon and asked, “Could imagination improve on that?”
